The Monday Motivator

January 15, 2007 Martin Luther King Jr. Day

What a day to start my Monday motivator. It’s hard not to be motivated by the life and words of Martin Luther King Jr. His life was a testament to standing firm and moving forward for truth and humanity.

Many times today we are going to hear the ever famous “I have a Dream Speech”. Do you know that you are that dream? You are one of the many to make a move forward in establishing that dream’s reality.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today!” –MLK Jr. August 23, 1963

You may think yourself only one person and what can one person do? Well Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat, and Martin Luther King Jr. refused to be oppressed by the limitations put on him because of his ethnicity.

You can make such a change today. You can step forward and help one life. In doing so, you have started a wave of humanity and compassion that will continue forward with no end. You just have to convince yourself that you can help, and in doing so give someone the chance to dream their own dream.
